Tamarack is one of the most well-established yet progressive treatment centres in Manitoba. Our unique structured program builds in flexibility, providing client-driven community-based treatment and support for alcohol and drug addiction.

Our extended program, continuing aftercare and transitional housing strengthen clients’ ability to make a lasting change as they take the first steps towards recovery and rebuild their lives.

STAFF

Lisa Cowan, M.A. CCC-S
Executive Director


Lisa is the Executive Director of Tamarack Recovery Centre.She began working at Tamarack as an Addictions Counsellor in 2008 and has served in the Executive Director role since 2010. Lisa is a trained Drama Therapist and a Certified Counsellor Supervisor with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. 
She is passionate about working in the field of mental health and addictions and finding ways to continually strengthen and improve upon the special treatment and work environment we have at Tamarack. Lisa also loves camping with her family, meditation, karaoke and cheesecake.

Sherry Gable
Operations Manager

Sherry is the Operations Manager at Tamarack.
She has worked here since April 2011 when she was hired as an addictions counsellor after completing her student internship from Red River College, where she graduated with honours from the Applied Counselling program.  Sherry has served as Tamarack’s Intake Counsellor and Finance Manager from 2012 and most recently was promoted to Operations Manager.  Sherry loves working at Tamarack and has a passion for helping people become the best version of themselves. Sherry also loves to bake and hang out with her family (especially her grandson!) every chance she gets.

Joanne Riedle
Clinical and Transition Supervisor

Joanne is the Clinical and Transition Supervisor at Tamarack and The Branch, Tamarack’s new supportive recovery house.
She has worked here for 11 years. Joanne began her time with Tamarack in the role of RCW and moved through several roles including Senior RCW, Case Manager and Aftercare Coordinator, eventually becoming Tamaracks’ Clinical Supervisor.
She believes everyone has the ability to recover if there are healthy connections and strong supports in place for both the client and their family, and as such Joanne has developed our aftercare program into a meaningful, readily available resource for our graduate clients and their families. Joanne’s previous experiences in management and leadership roles, as well as program development, has led to her current position at Tamarack. Joanne’s personal greatest loves are her family, and summers at the beach.

Peter Keating, B.S.W
Addictions Counsellor

Peter is an Addiction Counsellor at Tamarack Recovery Centre.
He began working at Tamarack as a Residential Care Worker in 2011 before moving into the role of addiction counsellor in 2012.Peter has an Applied Counselling certificate with a specialization in addiction studies along with a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Manitoba.
Peter is currently completing his Masters of Social Work based in Indigenous Knowledges. Peter is compassionate and understands the importance of his role in offering hope to families devastated by the consequences of substance use and reducing the stigma that many clients experience due to addiction.
Peter believes Tamarack offers the tools and a pathway for those clients to regain their connection with family, friends, and their community.  Peter believes it is the staff, board members, alumni and volunteers that have made Tamarack an incredible place of hope, courage and positive change in the Winnipeg community for over 45 years.Peter enjoys mountain biking, fishing, working out and spending time with his family.

Kathleen O’Meara, BA
Residential Care Worker

Kat is a Residential Care Worker at Tamarack.
She has worked here from 2016.Kat has a BA in Conflict Resolution & Peace Studies from the University of Winnipeg, and the Applied Counselling Certificate from the University of Manitoba. Kat has been in recovery for 6 years, and is passionate about helping all people find their authentic selves and learn how to live with integrity. Kat believes the key to recovery is responsibility, honesty and self-compassion. Kat also likes cats, spending time with family, chocolate and being outdoors.

Dawn Kirkpatrick
Intake/RCW Coordinator

Dawn is the Intake/RCW Coordinator at Tamarack.
Dawn followed her dream of working in the addictions recovery field by completing her Addictions and Community Service Worker practicum at Tamarack in 2015 and was hired immediately afterwards. She graduated with honors from CDI College and enrolled in the Applied Counselling Program at the University of Manitoba and is on track to graduate early 2021. Dawn served in the roles of RCW, Group Facilitator and Case Manager before becoming the Intake and RCW Coordinator. Dawn believes strongly in Tamarack’s vision, mission and goals and the importance of individuals having the opportunity to heal in a safe space and live a healthy life.Dawn loves winter vacations in Jamaica and summer camping in Manitoba and her top priority is spending time with family, especially her first grandchild.

Karen
Daytime RCW and Safety Coordinator

Karen began working at Tamarack in 2011 and has had various roles over the years.She is trained through the CDI College Addictions and Community Service Program and has worked with youth before coming to Tamarack.Karen spends her free time on photography, bike riding and spending time with her family.

Charmaine Yurechuk
Residential Care Worker

Charmaine is a Residential Care Worker at Tamarack.
Charmaine has worked here since 2016  and is a graduate of Tamarack’s program. Before working at Tamarack she was a stay at home mom, to 3 beautiful children.Charmaine believes in working hard and being fully open and honest with all.
She loves helping others , and making people laugh. Most importantly, she loves watching our clients grow in the short period of time they are here and getting comfortable with being themselves. 
Charmaine also loves the Tamarack stray cats that come around (yes, she does feed them) and going on hikes with her family on beautiful sunny days.

Emma Peck
Aftercare Counsellor and Case Manager

Emma is Tamarack’s Case Manager and Aftercare Counsellor at Tamarack.
She has worked here since September 2019. Emma is a graduate of Tamarack’s program and was an active participant in the aftercare and mentor programs prior to joining the staff team.
Emma is working towards her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and is passionate about supporting and empowering individuals struggling with mental health and addiction.
Emma values connection with her community, both spiritually and physically, and believes strongly in giving back, just as she was supported on her journey to recovery. Emma loves cycling, meditating, hiking and listening to her collection of vinyl records.

Darroll Robert Kovalsky
Residential Care Worker

Darroll is a Residential Care Worker at Tamarack.
He has worked here since February 2020 and brings valuable experience to the role from his 4 years’ service as a volunteer Recovery Coach with an out-patient treatment facility in Winnipeg. 
Darroll loves to see people at the beginning of their recovery journey and witnessing the successes and progress made in these early stages. As a person in recovery since December 2006, Darroll loves the fact that Tamarack treats the whole person, rather than just the addiction(s).
Darroll loves to be involved in art and other creative endeavours and has even taught some extra-curricular art classes to our clients.

Beverly Welsh
Residential Care Worker

Bev has worked with Tamarack since October 2020 and is looking forward to working here and being part of a team that has a passion for working with individuals overcoming addictions. Bev believes that her own experience as a person in recovery will give clients hope that they too can live a life of recovery.
