History
Tamarack Recovery Centre Inc., originally called Kia Zan Inc., was created in 1974 to provide young men and women with addiction recovery services. One year later, with new guidelines and strategies, Kia Zan Inc. re-incorporated as a not-for-profit organization in the Province of Manitoba. Letters Patent for Kia Zan (now Tamarack Rehab Inc., our legal name) were granted on April 19, 1975.
In March of 1998, the Board of Directors approved a name change from Kia Zan Inc. to Tamarack Recovery Centre Inc. and in April, 1998 the Province of Manitoba Corporations Branch registered the new name.
The Letters Patent give Tamarack the authority to design and deliver a variety of services in the treatment of addiction and to "operate and maintain Rehabilitation Centers", providing counselling, guidance, and rehabilitation to individuals residing in such residential centers. Over time, Tamarack has been recognized in the field and by the Province of Manitoba Ministry of Health and Healthy Living as the sole provider of Second stage residential treatment in Manitoba.
The Volunteer Board of Directors authorizes the Executive Director to operate Tamarack Recovery Centre under the provisions of these Letters Patent. Among the many services provided under the residential addiction treatment model are:
- Group Therapy
- Psycho-Educational Group Counselling
- Individual Guidance and Counselling
- Follow-up counselling
- Aftercare group therapy
- Employee Assistance Program Administration
- Life Skills Education
- Healthy Living and Wellness Education
