1. How long is the program?

Tamarack’s residential treatment program is 60 days. An extended 78 day treatment program is available for individuals who do not yet have 28 days free of alcohol/drugs. If you feel you’d benefit from additional time in treatment we can also tailor an extended program to suit you. Tamarack Recovery Centre also offers ongoing aftercare support to all graduate clients.   Back to top

2. What are the requirements for entering the program?

For entry into Tamarack’s 60 day program you must have been drug and/or alcohol free for 28 days prior to the date you enter the program. We can assist you in achieving this by having regular contact with you through meetings with our Intake Counsellor and carrying out testing on a regular basis. Tamarack also runs a 78 day program which requires you to be drug and/or alcohol free for 10 days preferably through a detox center. If you feel you can achieve the 10 days on your own we ask that you have regular contact and testing with Tamarack.  Back to top

3. I think I meet the requirements for entry, what do I need to do now to get in to the program?
Contact our Intake Specialist to set up an appointment to fill out an assessment form and discuss the options available to you.  Back to top

4. I am ready for treatment now, do you have a bed space/ how long is your wait list?

We manage our wait list carefully to ensure you can receive support quickly and access treatment in a timely way. If you have met all the requirements you could be in treatment right away. If you’re ready to take the next step towards recovery, contact our Intake Specialist.  Back to top

5. I’m a friend/loved one of someone who needs help, what can I do to support them?

Tell them about Tamarack. You may wish to use our brochure as a starting point as it includes helpful information about our programs and services. Have your friend/loved one contact our Intake Specialist to discuss their treatment options in confidence. You may also wish to contact our Intake Specialist who will be happy to talk with you about your situation. If this person’s addiction is affecting you or your family there are groups in Winnipeg that provide support to family members or loved ones such as Families Anonymous and Al-anon.  Back to top

6. Do abstinence and sobriety mean the same as drug and alcohol free?

Yes. When Tamarack refers to clients having a period of abstinence or sobriety time we are talking about time that is entirely free of drug or alcohol use.  Back to top

7. What kind of testing do you do?

We screen for drug or alcohol use with breathalyser and laboratory standard urinalysis tests. Tamarack is an abstinence based treatment facility, meaning clients may not consume drugs or alcohol at any point during their treatment. Tamarack places client safety as our highest priority and consequently we test all clients upon admission and periodically throughout their stay.  Back to top

8. What do you mean by a Tamarack Graduate?

Tamarack graduates are individuals who have completed the full treatment program. As a graduate they are entitled to twelve follow-up counselling sessions and unlimited aftercare support.  Back to top

9. Does Tamarack provide support to families?

Yes we do. We believe that family members* can be a vitally important part of a client's recovery journey. Our Forward in Recovery program provides support, information and meetings with family members during their loved one's stay at Tamarack. This service continues in the crucial months that follow treatment and, as with all our aftercare provision, is provided free of charge. If you'd like to speak to someone about our aftercare services and support for families, contact our Aftercare Program Coordinator.   Back to top

10. Do you take clients on methadone?

Because we are an abstinence based treatment facility, we do not take clients who are on methadone or in a methadone maintenance program. An individual who wants to be considered for admission into Tamarack’s treatment program, needs to begin a “stepping down” process before entering so that they are no longer taking methadone when they move in. During this ‘stepping down period’, they may come in for check-in appointments and ongoing support. There is not a time limit for this process and we will work with a client’s individual needs.  Back to top
