EXECUTIVE SUMMARY OF TAMARACK REHAB INC.S
REHABILITATION PROGRAM FOR ADDICTS.
Addiction is defined as An unhealthy relationship between a person and a mood or mind altering substance, experience, event or activity which contributes to life problems and their recurrence".
Biopsychosocial Treatment Philosophy. Tamarack Rehab Inc. offers a 8 week residential habilitation and rehabilitation program to persons who have recognized the presence of an addiction in their lives. We believe the term rehabilitation does not adequately describe the challenges faced by some individuals in the beginning stages of change or recovery. As a second stage or medium term habilitation and rehabilitation centre, we recognize that many addicted persons have been deprived of the primary affirming experiences that are necessary for the growth of a healthy human being and that addiction began as a way of coping with a pervading sense of un-wellness in all aspects of living.
Tamarack provides services for male and female adults who have taken a first step (primary treatment/education program) in acknowledging their addiction and who want to gain a thorough understanding of the function of their addiction. In our approach habilitation and rehabilitation better describes the challenges that accompany the prospect of living without addictions. We offer an opportunity for individuals to uncover and experience their competence and freedom.
Tamarack emphasizes the unique circumstances and perspective of each individual and we support the principle of empowerment: that each individual owns the process of self-determination.
Tamaracks program is client-centred. We attempt to meet the client-identified needs which extend beyond the immediate priority of dealing with the addictions. We address the problems and conditions which have preceded or co-exist with the addiction itself.

The Program. Tamaracks program is conducted using cognitive/emotive based group and individualized sessions.
Group therapy occurs daily, Monday to Friday, in two forms. One is in the form of instructional/learner-centred workshops. Subject areas include anger and emotional management, assertion, conflict resolution, enhanced interpersonal skills, family of origin awareness, family dysfunction, cognitive behavioural practice, relapse prevention and 12-Step living, among others. We also conduct process group therapy once a day. The client groups become the milieu where empowerment, self-determination, self-awareness and healing can occur.
